Twelve-week general pottery course

£399

Running over twelve consecutive weeks at the same time each week, our best value general foundation pottery course is the perfect all-round introduction for anyone new to ceramics. It offers a broad grounding in a range of essential skills and is intended to prepare you for being able to work independently.

You will learn how to prepare clay and throw a range of simple shapes on the wheel including cylinders, bowls and plates. You will use hand-building techniques such as pinching and coiling to build cups and bowls and also learn about pressing or joining slabs to build a wider range of vessels such as plates, bowls, mugs and vases.

You will also be taught different techniques for making handles, try out a range of different methods for adding textures, and decorate your work with slips, underglazes and glazes. We have no limit on how much material you use but we make a small charge of £5 per kg of finished pottery on anything you choose to have fired. This works out as about £1 for a small mug.

This course is also suitable for more experienced students who want to practise and develop their skills. Once the teacher has explained the key learning points of the session they will be happy to guide you on your area of interest.

All of our pottery classes take place at our beautiful studios located in Bristol’s thriving Christmas Steps Arts Quarter.
